We consider key areas
that contribute to the success and sustainability of the business.
Our cattle operation consists of different parts that are interconnected. We have the following: cow and calf operation, irrigated land for silage and cash crops, backgrounding & feedlot and the meat processing facility & Deli. Our vision is to compete with market leaders in this industry and participate in the entire value chain.
Cow and calf operation Our cow and calf operation has high quality cows which include but not limited to Bonsmara, Beefmaster, Brahman and Simbra for our breeding cattle from leading stud breeders which will enable our breeding herd to have quality genes. The cows give birth to calves of which all the male calves will be taken to our backgrounding and feedlot while the female calves will be kept for breeding.
Backgrounding & feedlot
All the male calves will be weaned from their mothers and taken to the backgrounding operation and once they have reached the desired weight then they will be put into the feedlot.
Silage and cash crop
Silage is vital for our operation and plays a crucial role in growing and feeding our cattle. Silage is the highest input cost if you buy in all your feed. To reduce the cost of buying the silage we are planting our own silage. We also plant cash crop which has enable us to use the cash generated from the crop to buy additional silage required as well as to do crop and silage rotation.
Meat and processing facility & Deli
The cattle from the feedlot lot will be taken to an abattoir for slaughtering then the quarters will be transported to our meat processing facility to be deboned and processed further. Meat is then sold directly through our Deli to the public and retailers.
Our strategy was to acquire a herd of highly fertile breeding stock, set up a feedlot, processing plant and chain of retail outlets. By integrating into the value chain, we can increase our share of the available profit whilst ensuring we control the look and feel of our growing agricultural brand.
Our Feedlot
We took the decision to invest in a feedlot operation after our research highlighted a growing supply & demand deficit in the South African beef market. Our strategy was to acquire a herd of highly fertile breeding stock, setup a feedlot, processing plant and chain of retail outlets. By integrating into the value chain, we can increase our share of the available profit whilst ensuring we control the look and feel of our growing agricultural brand.
Agriculture requires a variety of specialized skills, significant capital requirements, great relationships with customers & suppliers, and patience. Our team is committed to building our agriculture business over the long term and in so doing earning a reputation as a formidable player in the South African market.
